César Manrique
- The maker of Lanzarote
It was obvious from a short holiday there, that this artist had made
a big impression on the island, until his untimely death.
His paintings show
The lava flow
That shaped volcanoes new.
Black rocks delight
On walkways white
Round pools of purest blue.
Bold expressions
New impressions
Strong lines and vivid hues.
His sculptures seize
Their form from breeze
Inspired by the island's views.
César Manrique
He was unique
Until his car got wrecked.
He lived for art
And became a part
Of the island he did respect.
He fought the men
Still building then
Their roads and hotel blocks.
But now he's gone
It won't be long
Till they cover all the rocks.
