Mountain Bike
- Can only find first gear
Describing a person I saw cycling past on the way to the station rather than myself. With just a few additions.

I've bought myself a mountain bike, but I've only found first gear!
Up the hill I go and down again, but always in first gear!
No matter where I want to go, I'm always in a hurry.
And as the people pass me by, my legs are in a flurry.

It's not efficient transport, but then you see it keeps me fit.
I've got gas shocks, disc brakes, alarm, and every other gadget.
It's day-glow orange, can go off road, it's really fast in top.
But I simply can't change the gear, like the man did in the shop.

The previous bike I'd had, was a much more basic affair.
It hadn't any gears at all, but I really didn't care.
It got me fast from A to B, and I'd push if it got steep.
But now I fear some way from B, I'm likely to fall asleep.

Whenever I'm building up a sweat, joggers fly past at speed.
When coming to the traffic lights, I brake, but there's little need.
Still it's comforting to know, if I come across a mountain
I'll be ready for it, slogging up, in the gear I'm still in!
