Let Them Know It's Christmas
- A spoof Christmas appeal
With the release of "Band Aid 20" and the many Christmas appeals at this time of year, I couldn't help thinking of a really stupid one ...

At this time of year
We should spare a thought for those less fortunate.
We should help to ensure
That people all over the world,
No matter where they live,
Or under what undemocratic order they fight against,
Know that it is Christmas time,
And that we would like to share
Our feelings of peace and joy.

To this end, I propose that every village,
Every humble place of dwelling,
Every refugee camp or slum throughout the world
Should be provided with the most important
Gift that we can give in the spirit of the time
- a ten foot high flashing Santa with
a crack team of mooning elves in lurid green tinsel.

With this symbol of good will and merriment
In their midst, great joy will ring out!
An end to wars, a stop to corruption.
Famine will be banished to history, as the collective spirit
Is so raised up by the sight of the flashing Santa
That they will re-double their efforts to come
Together and sow the crops in the field.

So forget the blankets, forget the bicycles, shovels
And celebrity appeals
- give them a Santa, and all will be well.
