December Exceptions
- Delaying a New Year Resolution
One way to delay the start of a new year resolution is to officially extend the month of December of the previous year. Sounds reasonable enough!

I'm making resolutions for another new year.
There are so many things which need changing it's clear.
But I'm making exceptions for the whole of December,
Which I've extended to last for the rest of the year.

It's December forty-sixth of two thousand and three,
It's going quite well and right now I am happy.
But at the end of December, I'm giving up booze.
I need a few more days to get ready you see.

So December will have nearly four hundred days.
It's cheating, but we all have our own different ways
Of avoiding the worst of the goals we've imposed.
I'm merely postponing a year, for a definite phase.

I still need to be drinking when it's Valentines day.
December seventy-sixth, as I worked out today.
For a romantic dinner must have that bottle of wine
Expressing feelings out loud in an unspoken way.

Then it's my birthday, well I can't stay at home.
You don't treat your dog by stealing its bone.
I'm off down the pub December one thirty-five.
Not there on a calendar, so I'm making my own.

Then there'll be a holiday, or a wedding to go to.
With tables full of alcohol placed there to tempt you.
So it's not right to promise to be dry for a while.
Not while there's plenty of honest drinking to do.

At the end of December, I will be giving up booze.
But for the rest of this year, December continues.
