Clean Energy Dream
- What a joy nuclear energy is! (not)
I think we are beginning to see through some of the things we were
told about nuclear energy. We certainly need to find an alternative
to coal and gas, but we should be careful about going nuclear.
We're surrounded by waste from plants built in haste,
When beating the cost of coal was the goal.
We needed no proof, for what we believed was the truth.
The men in white coats were totally trusted
When they said this was a wonderful fuel.
Now we lament for the fuel rods we've spent
In pursuit of the clean energy dream.
Think for a while, as we stare at the pile
Of long glowing rods in the pool that contains them
Whilst we bury yet more in the ground.
How can we tolerate, such danger to generate
The power we are using, for the TV that's abusing
Our mind, so we think that we're all of a kind.
We all need more power, so we must build the tower
Of cards that will topple us all.
We've damaged our soil, we've ravaged the sea.
Despite reasonable care, we've released in the air
Enough radiation to give to our nation
Yet more deaths from cancer and other diseases.
As much in the rivers as the agency pleases.
Despite central funding and careful accounting,
The case for its cost has now sadly been lost.
A final admission of the real price of fission.
Time now to stop and make use of resources.
Harness the wind that has blown through the change.
They're trading plutonium, they're trading uranium.
For the making of bombs and the taking of lives.
We opened the lid of, now we're paying the price of
The clean energy dream that's now such a nightmare.
It's time to wake up now to renewable fuels.
Time for wind, sun and wave. Leaders, it's time to be brave.
