Our Own History
- There's no undoing what's done
Nothing much to add to the words on this one. I just feel trapped
by what I have done. I want to change some things, but I don't think
I can.
We are controlled by personal history.
Not at liberty to decide our own destiny.
What we have done is there for all to see.
Cannot be undone, no way to become free.
It is quite impossible to turn back
Along the well-marked and trodden track.
Our paths are not defined by the zodiac
But by all those troubles that we pack.
I know you're thinking that I am wrong.
You say the singer can change their song.
I don't think that anyone can be that strong
Without the help of others they depend upon.
You can throw away the photos, but the memories remain.
You can paint the wall, but those little dents stay the same.
For the choices that you make, there's only you to blame.
But the options that you have, were set early in the game.
You will tell me that if I really want, I can make a new start.
But I tell you there are too many constraints upon my heart.
I don't believe a new way of thinking stands a chance to last.
I have too many memories of the failures in my past.
I would like to try and forget my earlier days.
Learn to live life anew and change my ways.
I feel an energy that gives me that expectation.
But I still have yet to find my new direction.
