The Matter Copier
- What if I actually made one?
If I made a matter copier, could I trust myself to use if responsibly?
Could I trust the world with it? What if it could coppy itself?
Ladies and gentlemen this is not me.
I have a monumental announcement to make.
I have redefined human destiny.
I can make a perfect copy of a snowflake.
I've created a matter copier.
This device turns pure energy into matter
That's equal in every parameter
To an original object that I enter.
The world is about to change forever.
And it will be I who have caused this great event.
Endless copies by pulling a lever
Of everything that mankind can invent.
Mass production for truly zero cost.
I could make myself wealthy, in a single day.
Win battles against hunger that seemed lost.
I can have everything I want, all my own way.
Give me a pound, and I can give you ten.
Lend me your CD, I can sell another three.
With one mince pie, I can fill up the oven.
You want the real thing? I'll make a perfect copy!
The whole world will be my oyster supper.
Or should I rid the world of all its poverty?
Indulge in gluttony, or have fewer people suffer?
These decisions could become a liability.
The world may not be ready for this thing.
What if the copier could also be copied?
Would there be an end to what I'm starting?
Would we all be consumed by our personal greed?
Maybe then I should go home right now and break it.
I don't think that my soul, or the world can take it.
