Luxury Apartment Block
- Do they not build houses anymore?
It seems that in my part of the world it is only luxury apartment blocks
that are built. No affordable houses, schools, parks, roads, shops ...
Soon there will be nothing as far as the eye can see that is not
A super-expensive, ever so desirable, luxury apartment block.
Down has come the football ground, down has come the church.
On the ground a forest stood, there now stands a single birch.
How can people pay so many thousands for a place to own?
What chance do we get to walk on the grass that they've sown?
What I call a ghetto, they refer to as courtyard development.
When one day they're out of a job, they'll see what I meant.
Economic enclaves, islands of opulence fenced off from the sea.
But they are getting smaller year on year, I'm sure it's not just me!
The most expensive metal cooker, but in such a tiny little room.
A bathroom with matching bidets, but no place to hang a broom.
They don't build shops, don't build schools, only more estates.
Who needs parks or playgrounds, or a place to meet your mates?
Where's the need for sports, art, or culture when you can sell a flat?
Pack em in and build em high. Yeah, where's the harm in that?
How can the school headmaster or farmer afford to make a stand
When the builders pay far more than we do for their uses of the land?
Do we all want to live in Milton Keynes? A town without a soul.
Let's have an integrated city, where town planners take control.
