One Seat Away
- Missed out on a relationship again
I do seem very good at getting talking with girls that I really quite
fancy, only to discover that for one of a huge number of reasons, it is never
going to happen.
I glance, and see you sat, just one seat away.
I smile, you smile.
I could see we might be friends.
I make some joke and break the ice.
You reply, our conversation moves on.
I smile, you smile.
We talk about the bands we've come to see.
Talk about their music.
Talk about the way we listen to them at home.
Talk about the land they're from.
I smile, you smile.
Then you mention that your friend's not here,
You point to the empty seat between.
Tell me that your boyfriend really likes the band
But cannot make it here tonight.
I smile, you smile.
We talk about the venue and the lights around.
Talk about the bands we've seen.
Talk about the seat that has the best view.
Talk about the album that comes out soon.
I smile, you smile.
The first band is your favourite.
But I find them quite difficult to start.
I see you follow each and every sound.
Slowly they begin to grow on me
And as we emerge into the break
I smile, you smile.
Then my band are on, and my mind is strongly focussed.
Gripping at the seat, hoping they will play forever.
But it's over way too soon, and we're leaving by the door.
I look around for you, but so many people moving.
By the final doorway, I turn and see you wave.
I smile, you smile.
I smile at you, you smile at me,
Then I turn to leave.
